Goal Check!

At the beginning of a new year, most of us chant the following words like a song or a compulsory announcement we need to indulge in and it goes like this ‘New Year New Me’  or I am ready for my New Year Resolutions or ‘leaving all the negative stuff in 2014’. Now goal setting is not an issue, it is definitely one of the major ways of allowing us discipline ourselves, a reminder and also a cause for motivation. Withstanding as much as we all have goal plans or goals we wish to achieve, the main thing required of us is to carry out the necessary action to achieve those goals. It is one thing to write down a goal plan, it is another to act on it.

This is a brand new year, and on the 1st of January, a lot of us had plans for this year, ideas and goals we hope and set out to achieve. We are at the middle of the first month of the year already. Oh How Time Flies! If we do some evaluation we would see that some of us are already on the right track and to those who are on the right path, I say a big KUDOS! or rather a Thumbs up! to you all.

Now for some of us who after doing a self evaluation of the first half of the first month (you get my drift) realise that consciously or unconsciously we have already started losing focus on the goals we set out to achieve this year, I would say don’t panic! According to one of my favourite quotes ‘when there is life, there is hope’. As humans we tend to make mistakes and have certain behaviours or routines we find difficult controlling but to achieve something in life, one requires certain characteristics like Discipline, persistence and positivity.

For those of us who would like to get back our focus on our set goals, here are some tips to help us regain focus:

Positive Mind - Having a positive mind and self belief is truly one of the great traits humans can have and strive to achieve in this life. We all definitely get some negative thoughts or distractions once in a while but even if we do, we need to learn to acknowledge the thoughts and refocus our mind back on positivity.

Remember - In your heart you probably know what you big goal is and the step required to achieve it. Remind yourself on why you are doing what you are doing. Why do you want to achieve that goal? are your sure about it? if yes write out your plan and focus!. take out time each day to visualise and appreciate your goal and remind yourself on what you need to do to get there.

Eliminate -  Get rid of your distractions!!!…This can be applied to different circumstances. You could eliminate negative thoughts and you could also eliminate non productive measures and laziness. Let us be aware that laziness and non productive measures can make us do a thousand unimportant task. I am sure at one point in our lives we have all had that situation where we feel busy BUT we are actually not doing anything that leads to achieving our goals. This is counter productive and therefore we need to eliminate certain distractions

Prioritize - This seems an obvious suggestion but how many of us actually know how to prioritise our work, plans, ideas, goal steps? For some of our goals, we would most likely have steps that we should take in order to help us achieve it. So each day while working, we should learn to prioritise our plans. The things that would help us get accomplished and move us forward to achieving our goals should take priority and be at the top of our daily plans.

Relax - When we are relaxed and do not feel rushed or panic, we would be able to have clarity to see what is working and what is not working for us. Being relaxed allows us get in the ‘zone’ which is important for us in gaining focus and being able to concentrate.

Be Healthy - Take care of your body and mind!.. Exercising, getting enough sleep,  eating healthy and actively recuperating do wonders in making us more fit and productive in our daily activities.

I hope these few steps can help us re evaluate ourselves and get back on track!..
